Northvolt Process requires batteries to be discharged. Points of difference such as this give Primobius a significant advantage you would think (The hydromet process which Northvolt also claim a 95% recovery rate is really a bog standard metallurgy adaptation) along with SMS’ manufacturing capacity and track record in project delivery. Northvolt may be banking on first mover advantage as a barrier to entry with then black mass process as something that can be refined moving forward. in this respect, it will be good to see a positive FID by September, reinforcing confidence in the process and, hopefully, along with the JV securing a place in the North American and European markets.
