Guess that backs up what's needed is what we see in practice - multiple ZBMs in an install, to provide redundancy when one is going through the required discharge cycle, as well as taking care of a typical occupancy/building's requirements as 3kW is just 60% of the mainstream competitor (outside of any discharge period).
Perhaps that is what the added research may be tackling - less discharge downtime/increased power perhaps?
AFAIK, Tesla Megapacks are now using LFP chemistry, which largely negates any fire risk advantage of the flow battery: https://reneweconomy.com.au/tesla-boosts-size-and-rating-of-megapack-battery-module-by-50-per-cent/
Should Powerwall follow, as we might expect with nickel saved for those mong range/heavy duty mobility applications (Semi/Cybertruck) well, what is the advantage of the flow battery?
