I was doing a job at Tumut 3 some years ago and remember being gobsmacked by the change in water depth in the pondage each morning as coal fired power stations across eastern seaboard powered 3 of the 6 generators which double as pumps, pumping water back up hill overnight into Talbingo Dam ready to cash in next day. Wonder how much of Snowy's profits are based on this arbitrage, Australia's longest serving pumped hydro site since mid 70s.
