I imagine that operators of coal-fired power stations would find batteries attractive as well as the intermittent renewable industry. It seems to me that a power generator would run more efficiently at a constant rate. So instead of running its generator down in periods of low demand, they could keep it running and charge up a battery. Then then demand exceeds their generator capacity, they could switch in the battery to give them extra capacity.
