The Bakken play that is chased in the US and Canada requires horizontal wells (for the most part) and large fracture stimulations jobs.
While the price of oil may be the same here, the big difference is the cost of drilling, completing and fraccing wells in Australia vs North America.
A horizontal oil well with a 1000 meter lateral leg, and a 100 tonne staged fracture stimulation in North America will cost you less than 2 Million bucks in Canada and less than 4 million bucks in US (deeper, bigger flows).
If you could even muster enough frac gear to do so in Australia, I venture to say it would be exceedingly more to drill and fracture a horizontal well in Australia, and I don't even mean in the middle of NT.
