the simple answer is yes it could if that is the case. First step is to get a Pre-sytack depth migrated volume, which needs some 'good-reasoanble' velocity information. This should give a picture of what the fan system looks like in depth. Second step is to test a number of 'what-if' models ie what would be the seismic character if the seciton was filled with water or hydrocarbon, and then test the model you have mentioned to see if the trap leaks
However there are no 'correct' answers to the modelling, just a set of proiabilities.
