That is correct, the portion that has grown inside the fund is tax free; so if you think there is a huge upside coming, you need to put it in the fund now.
For me, I just did a Comsec internal transfer and use the current SP as a purchase price. It's simple and hastle free if you have everything within the same financial institution.
