Economic development of any kind is desperately needed and new gas supplies are critically required.
The wild coast is a sh!thole anyway - denuded of trees - widespread soil erosion - tribal and taxi gangsterism - nil coastal development or industry except for beach foraging (the rough sea and lack of harbors does not allow for local small scale fishing). Umtata (admin capital of the wild coast) recently experienced taxi gangster highway blockades and mass looting of delivery trucks plying the N2 route between KZN and E.Cape.
