I live in auriferous country and I watch the deposition of the sediments when erosion occurs in the landscape.
I think that it is a microcosm of what occurs in the formation of these Oil bearing deposits.
The coarse gravels and sands (which are suitable for concrete) are found higher up the creeks and when you get down to the flatter areas you get fine silts and top soils (suitable for gardens).
The deposits are often thrown sideways when the creeks change direction and that is where the accumulations occur.
