    Hi OldGeo,
excellent piece of research and analysis. I tips my hat to you.

Kapana-1 was reported as 'non-commercial' inferring oil and gas shows were observed but insufficient development of reservoir quality in the Lower Cretaceous basin fan sands. So hydrocarbon generation is not a risk in the area.

It does appear that Chevrons Kapana-1 suffered the same fate as TotalEnergie's Nara-1X which had ample AVO present based on public released data, but declared 'non-commercial' by Total Energie due to insufficient reservoir development.

Both Nara and Kapana appear to be basin floor fans on the outside (west) side slope of the outer high ridge and were never exposed to winnowing/cleaning up by bottom currents to enhance sand reservoir quality.

The Venus Aptian basin floor fan to the west of the outer high ridge/axis was 'saved; reservoir wise, by ponding against a local high that allowed for bottom current clean up of the sand reservoir with varying degrees of success. Tamboti-1 success appears to be very similar to Venus success.

Chevron would obviously look for stratigraphic traps to the east of the outer high axis in the shallower Cretaceous sequence such as at Mopane as well as any local highs to the west of the outer high ridge/axis which would allow ponding of basin floor sands and reservoir clean up by bottom currents as at Venus.

As presented in your excellent diagram, the Saturn ponded shallower Cretaceous sands with reverse dip are on the 'right (eastern) side' of the outer high ridge/axis for the clean up of sands by bottom currents.

Commercial success at Sagittarius-1X, currently drilling, would provide further support for your proposed mechanism for the enhancement of reservoir quality in ponded sands at the time of deposition sitting against by the outer ridge high/axis.

So we await advice from WDS/PCL as to the future prospectivity of PEL 87 and the Saturn Fan based on the 3D analysis.

All of course will be revealed in due time when the first well is drilled by the 'rotary lie detector'.

    Risk in everything. DYOR.
