The more I read, the more it appears that the jewels of the Orange Basin will be to the east of the outer high, as well as perhaps more north than many expected. We know from Galp that Mopane has "good reservoir porosities with high pressure and high permeability in "large" hydrocarbon columns. Oil sampling confirms very low oil viscosity, minimal CO2 and no H2S." Upcoming Mopane-3X results will be very interesting. From a GEOExPro artcile a couple of weeks ago also regarding Shell, "It is probably the presence of volcanic detrital material within the reservoir that has facilitated the anomalous growth of chlorite in the Namibian reservoirs. Marcio Mello, speaking at the IMAGE Conference last year, hinted that the reservoir quality was improving further to the north, so maybe the Mopane reservoir does not suffer from chlorite cementation to the same extent."

While some have viewed the news from Shell and Chevron over the past week as negative, I believe the information has painted Saturn in an even more positive light. Within Saturn, "a number of significant leads show Class II/III AVO anomalies...major discoveries to south (i.e. Mopane) are believed to have Class II/III AVO support". From our annual report, "Pancontinental regards the Mopane discovery as being an extremely positive indicator for PEL 87 prospectivity, as it is believed to reside in a similar, intra-slope setting to PEL 87, with reservoir formations of comparable age and sharing the same oil source formation (Kudu Oil Shale)." The super majors are circling Galp and with news this past week regarding Shell and Chevron (as well as data from their drilling), interest in PEL 87 may have gone up a notch.
