Maybe because of your first line - "Analysts have been saying a company needs at least 40% to have controlling interest." You can have a 10% interest in a tenement and have control - it has nothing to do with % holding and all to do with what is written in the agreements. NWE and Min Res were a good example. I don't remember the % holding but Min Res had a much greater interest than NWE but needed NWE agreement to do anything. For a company % shareholding is important for control. For a tenement it all comes down to what is in the agreement as to who has control. Nothing to do with percentages.
