Meanwhile on the other side of the Atlantic in the offshore Campos Basin-Brazil, Oligocene and Miocene sand-rich turbidites form important reservoir rocks in the Marlim and Marlim Sul oilfields. These turbidites were deposited in a deepwater setting associated with slope deposits similar-to the ORYX and HYRAX turbidite leads of Albian age. Furthermore, the Marlin Sul field is potentially a useful seismic amplitude analogue for the ORYX and HYRAX turbidite leads. The environments of deposition are the same, and there are clear similarities in the depositional shape of the turbidite lobes (teardrop) and amplitude responses over Marlim Sul, ORYX and HYRAX, amplitude responses that conform to the stratigraphic morphology of both turbidite systems.
