OldGeo thoughts - oil leaking from a stratigrahpic trap like OYRX via thief channels containing porous and permeable sandstone carrier beds is one thing. For that oil to then find its way to the ocean floor (e.g. via deep faulting to surface) is another. It is possible, but in my view remote in this instance. And correct, very few ocean oil slicks are evident in PEL-87.

OldGeo thoughts - All oil-filled reservoirs contain % of water, even when these oil-filled reservoirs are above an oil-water contact. You very rarely get oil-filled reservoir sandstones with 100% oil saturation basically because these sediments were deposited underwater in a marine environment millions of years ago- at this stage, the sediment/reservoir is 100% water saturated. As oil migrates into these reservoirs over time, the connate water (like fossil water) is slowly displaced by the oil, but not all of the water is displaced. There is always a % of connate water remaining within the reservoir. A bit like water in sponge - you simply cannot remove all the water from a sponge by simply squeezing it.
