Sorry to interrupt; I wanted to add an opinion...The Sintana image is essentially an old schematic that they’ve modified. However, given that Sintana is involved in multiple blocks in the region, including the Mopane discovery, one would expect their modifications to contain reasonably accurate information, making it fair to draw some inferences from the image.
My only concern is whether Sintana has simply reworked the old figure without fully considering the results of ongoing biostratigraphy studies from recent drilling. Since they are primarily an investment company, they may not be fully up to date with the geoscience—but that’s probably a bit academic of me at this stage.The discovery symbols they’ve added for Mopane appear to correspond (from bottom to top) to the Albian, Turonian, and Campanian/Maastrichtian intervals, which seems a reasonable assumption, and in-line with other reports (?).
No big-surprises re the source rocks.The two key source rocks remain the Cenomanian/Turonian (shallow) and the Aptian (deeper). The image suggests these converge further outboard as the section becomes condensed due to slower sedimentation rates in the deepwater setting. This is reasonable, although beware/reminder the image is a schematic and is not representative of the whole Namibian/Sth Afr margin. The Aptian, which itself has two distinct parts, is considered the primary source rock in this area. In contrast, the Turonian is typically immature across the region, including within PEL87; despite what the schematic might imply. But until geochem studies are reported, we can only assume.
