The more you know, the longer you know a gas or oil field the more complex the reservoir model becomes. This is valid for all oil and gas fields world wide.
So it should not be a very big surprise that the new interpretation of the 3D seismik shows more reservoir compartments. Ofcourse a big homogenous reservoir would be best, but seldom you get such a reservoir.
These reservoir compartments are still very big reservoirs, big enough for major oil companies. If the Woodside G&G decision makers thought the reservoir is one big homogenous reservoir, based on the 2 D seismik interpretation, these colleagues would be naive or would not have seen the interpretations from Shell respectively Total. I think the colleagues from Woodside are not naive and they have seen the published interpretations from Venus (for the amplitude analyses the color red was used)etc. So it was relatively clear you could expect compartments. This artikle highlights the compartments issue in Saturn. Yes, this will make some extra work, it will be more complicated and complex, but IMHO it should be no show stopper because the compartments are still very very large. PCL and future farm in partners have to crack the code which are the best compartments to start first oil production, i.e. do their homework.
