    Yes, it is crucial to take great care in designing the filters and mute functions, especially if the near and far offsets are being used for AVO analysis, where the low frequency noise is more prevalent, especially from head waves and shallow refractors.

    There are all sorts of approaches to filtering these noise sources, including f-k, tau-p, and radon transforms, to mention the most common, but that starts getting pretty technical, so I'll leave it at that.
