Seismic exploration is all about visualising the subsurface, but remembering that the vertical scale is in time not depth, and that any depth maps have been created by assuiming the velocity of sound in the various layers. Velocity information comes from nearby wells, so the further your are away from wells, the uncertainty of the velocity information inceases and more more uncerian the depth map becomes.
