The territory of the borders of three states is literally teeming with jihadists. The map shows their activity in the region. Here are the Islamic State's West Africa Province (ISWAP), Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal-Muslimin (JNIM, ex Al Qaeda in West Africa), Boko Haram, and Jamaat Ahl as- Sunnah Lid-Dawa Wal Jihad (JAS, one of the factions of Boko Haram), and Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
And this is not to mention the various separatist movements that often link up with jihadists. It’s not for nothing that this region is called “the new Afghanistan.”
The military regimes of the Sahel countries - Mali, Burkina Faso and Niger - will build the architecture of collective defense and mutual assistance with the help of Russian military specialists.
