Simple... if those in the age bracket 20's and 30's were as frugal as those in the 1960's, 70's and early 80's they'd probably have a deposit pretty quickly.
Also most back then had two jobs.
I worked with a bloke who had a wife and two young kids... they absolutely lived below the poverty line and he worked two jobs, his wife studied accountancy. Some 6 or 7 years they had a deposit for a house a bit out town, they bought around 2014 and the rest is history, the area they bought in became popular then along came Covid where property prices rose. The husband still has two jobs and one of these is a part time TAFE teacher.
They sacrificed a lot but to go from nothing with two kids to owning a house and both having decent jobs is brilliant.
Couples can do it if they stop spending and maybe look at buying in an area they can afford, even if that means moving out of the city. It depends how badly you want it. I'd say a decade of hard work and being frugal without going overboard is worth it.
