Did you guys notice this little tit bit from the All Energy Conference in Glasgow P16. Partner in the SUPEGEN funded “E-Drive” linear generator project with University of Edinburgh.
These slow speed generators types are now used in large wind turbines and remove the necessity for gearbox in the turbine.
A slow speed linear (back and forth) generator would remove all the messy and dare I say it unreliable hydraulics and would mean considerable efficiency gains over pressurised oil driving turbines then generators.
It has the add bonus of being reverse driven to reposition the Boy for the next wave.
linear generator will have, High reliability, High efficiency, Lower build cost, Lower maintenance during operation. Win win.
I work in the coal fired power industry (no lynch mobs please) and was never keen on the hydraulic to electricity system used in many of the failed wave systems. Lets hope CWE can make these direct linear generator work.
