sskim, interesting topic.
I must say that the limestone rock dosent have a high porisity for one thus it would be hard for the gas to esacape.
Secondly this means that in order for the gas to escape in large quantities then it has to follow a fault line. fault lines occur over millions of years so the dome could have formed before a fault line occured trapping the gas beneath it.
Thirdly if this was the case then shouldnt the upper zones also have no gas.
