It could be that both the uprampers and the downrampers are sort of correct with respect to JPR.

ATM JPR is the ugly duckling in my portfolio. It could be the case that Block 31 is not the best and finest in the country and that necessaey dilution will cap the SP in the near term. Operating costs are on the high side & political risk sits somewhere between yellow & orange on a colour chart. This information is not new & nor is the high level of bureaucratic control , harsh winters & the corruption (see the Transparency International score).

On the upside, I read that Kazak reserves may be at least at 1/4 of those of Saudi Arabia and that all roads (read pipelines) no longer lead to Moscow. China's thirst for Kazak oil is insatable...the Chinese having purchased Petrokazakhstan from Canadian interests for just under a billion. And while Block 31 may have significantly less O&G than some (disputed) Caspian Sea (lake according to th Russians) prospects it may still be highly profitable.

The politics of control are in the extreme risk zone for some players. In this respect JPR has everything to gain and little to lose as the Goverment can use the participation of global juniors ,such as JPR, who are not aligned to the majors or to Russia, China, Iran or the US to the Goverment's advantage.

Insto share dump volatility aside, (gosh it even happened at NDO the other day), my current view is that JPR is for those with a similar investment view to Sinopec...which is simply to secure hydrocarbons cheaply, develop the business over time and see what happens.
