The Financial Times has focused on the Navarran company Geoalcali,
which is working on the construction of the Muga Potash Mine, between the Sangüesa and Undués de Lerda (Aragón) districts,
for a report published on its pages this Wednesday. Dated in London and Sao Paulo,
the information deals with the problem of potash derived from the war in Ukraine. "The war and the fear of a food crisis stimulate the race for potash," headlines the English newspaper on page 9.
The newspaper addresses the problem caused by the war in Ukraine and the sanctions against Russia,
since this country, together with Belarus, produces 40% of the potash consumed in Europe.
And, faced with this situation, Europe is realizing the need to be self-sufficient.
This is the reason why you are looking for projects that can meet the demand.
And, in this context, Geoalcali has a project, launched since 2013, which plans to start the activity at the end of 2024.
For this report, which refers to the role that Geoalcali could play in this situation, the newspaper has interviewed, among others, Ignacio Salazar Blanco, CEO of this company, owned by the Australian company Highfield Resources.
"Europe is realizing that it needs to be self-sufficient and is starting to look for projects in this direction,"
the manager told the British newspaper."We have seen a big difference in the level of interest in this project since the Ukraine war has started," Salazar added.
The Muga mine project expects to produce one million tons of potash per year, equivalent to a third of what Europe imports from Russia and Belarus.
The Financial Times information is signed by Neil Hume and Emiko Terazono,
from London, and by Michael Pooler, from Sao Paulo.
