Creating a thread regarding geographic expansion. Similar to what the OG holders did regarding the US launch, we can share ideas regarding new geographies and share research.
From my side, I am hoping to see at least the German launch this year.
The relevant research:
1. Germany has a population of 80m+ and is > 3x the size of the Australian market.
2. We have just released a software update with German language support.
2. On a run rate basis, More than 50% of Xplora's device sales are derived from Germany (refer extract below). This implies the category has a high degree of category awareness and hence we can reasonably expect to achieve good results (similar to launching in the Nordics where there was already category awareness).
3. Old Management, had this on their radar and rightly so from what we've seen with Xplora.. Germany was at the top of Mark's list. Refer picture below.
4. Germans have somewhat a reputation of being a cautious crowd (similar to the Nordics). Potentially a factor in why the category is starting to boom over there, proven by the Xplora results.
Time will tell if the new Management can execute on the founders vision. Mike Holt is still heading up the European operations, so hopefully he can deliver the vision while the interim CEO comes in nearly blind to the business and the category.
Mike Holt will be very keen to get some runs on the board, hardly his fault but the low category awareness has resulted in very poor returns in the UK to date.... One of the learnings indicated by Fortunatow was that they would no longer be launching for land grab, only where they can see return, which the ultimate indicator is category awareness.
C'mon Mike, let's get it !
