    Think of it this way ...

    I have a liquid A (stand in for O & N) which does not absorb microwaves and a liquid B (stand in for CO2) which absorbs microwaves (stand in for infrared radiation). I put some B in A and microwave the AB (O+N+CO2) mixture. The mixture gets hot because B absorbs the microwave energy and shares it with A by conduction.
