people that could barely afford payments will be saved. but are they going to be consumers any longer. Nope. If they had been allowed to fail, then maybe they could have re-adjusted (bought into) to a falling housing market in a year or so. This looks like a bear market of a thousand cuts, ie slow and gradual. You cant wash away a housing boom that has run out of credit, unless you re-ignite the credit boom. And that will not happen on a 25 point drop in interest rate.
