geothermal - best placed to replace coal?

There's a two page special on 'Green Power' in today's AFR.

The author states that Geothermal energy is less developed than wind and solar power and that hot-rock sites are invariably located in remote inland regions hundreds of kilometres from high-voltage transmission lines, and in addition to the obvious problems this causes, the further power has to travel the more energy is lost.

However there is life in Geothermal yet. Unlike wind and solar it is capable of providing baseload power, it is not weather dependent and it is constant, not intermittent like the other two, so power can be produced whenever it is required.

Geothermal is the least developed technology with the greatest chance of competing with coal-fired electricity.

Any comments about the AFR's claim that Geothermal has the best chance to compete with coal?
