Yes would agree with you that the drilling will be more difficult (also slower and more costly) - through granite (I believe Paralana will be the easiest project in this regard?). In general thermal gradient will be lower the more heat conductive the rock is (so the higher the ratio of granite to sedimentary in the cross section). These factors make finding the right JV partner all the more important here ie not just a source of cash, but drilling expertise. An oiler perhaps (maybe even one of their European partners?), or perhaps even BHP.

I think they can improve on the siting of their well and they have plenty of acreage to choose from. Recent work with BHP may have been to this end -talk of heat flows etc.

That presentation is an interesting snapshot but the slides mostly pinched from presentations by the respective companies so worth reading the original documents if you are interested.
