Wouldn't that be nice. An economy not based on economics. My entire roof would be made of solar panels, which I would use to produce H to run my car and boat. Unfortunately, I cannot afford so many of these panels, and have to buy electricity from the grid, where companies in pursuit of profit produce electricity as cheaply as possible.
Germans manage to afford their solar electricity at the expense of other nations' capacity. Distorted subsidies to make the technology economical have caused a blow-out in the cost of panels for everyone else.
The cost/MWh (weighted against emissions and renewability) will determine the future of power generation, and will be instrumental in the success of the geothermal sector.
