    To clarify - the reason there is too much technical risk for geothermal in Australia is because you need to drill very deep and build a reservoir. This is cutting edge technology. In the Pacific and Canary Island projects the resources are traditional geothermal systems hosted at shallow levels by volcanoes, therefore the technology is known.

    It's also interesting to note that China is moving on geothermal energy (see http://world.einnews.com/article/216155100/-0G1yXDnpB4JkR9i). As they have few if any volcanoes they will probably need to recreate whatever deep geothermal technology was developed in Australia and which now will be lost.
