If you don't mind the intrusion of another engineer.

In NZ geothermal is mainstream, and entering a renaissance growth phase. Resource consent issues appear to have been holding it back, despite favourable (unsubsidised ) economics.

The lack of commercial and technical connection between the NZ experience/expertise and the aussie hot rockers appears baffling at first, but examining the differences a bit closer, perhaps not so suprising.

The support industry for NZ has focussed internationally, eg Indonesia and Philipines in the absence until recently of new projects in NZ. Some technology is imported, ie Ormat seen to have the near monopoly internationally on the ORC component. Furthermore the NZ operators are mostly state owned enterprises, and investing outside NZ, or mixing it with the aussie fast talking swinders is probably cultural anetheama. New, more enteprenual players will emerge.

Technically chasing live steam systems in generally hot areas is quite a different challenge to sourcing heat and then creating artifical reservoirs. NZ players need to run out of natural system opportunities before they are likely to join the aussie rush for artifical geotherm.

I've held a few PTR from the float, but only now stating to see it becoming a serious investment, worthy of more than a token stake.

I believe hot rocks could be as main stream in Aus in 10 years as wind is now, and it's looking more and more like PTR could be one of the leading players (or get swallowed up).
