Gerald Celente publisher of the Trends Journal, made the following erroneous forecasts in the Summer 2008 and Summer 2009 editions of his Trends Journal about 2012.

    1. By 2012, the "American Empire" is collapsing.
Technically incorrect. America is a global superpower with vast interests, but it has never been an empire. America’s global influence is declining but not collapsing.

    2. In the U.S., basic staple goods like quality food and water are too expensive for most people to afford and "food riots" happen across the country.
Anyone seen any food riots lately?

    3. Major American cities look like disaster zones, and mass homelessness exists across the country.
Anyone seen any US cities that look like disaster zones lately?

    4. Crime is rampant, with much of it being directed at the rich.
Crime rates across the USA, particularly violent crime, are in a long term downtrend.

    5. Kidnappings and ransomings of rich people are on the rise.
    No evidence of this

    6. Average people fed up with big government, high taxes and out-of-control spending join tax revolts.
    No evidence of “tax revolts”

    7. The world is also experiencing major environmental problems and "the blackest of plagues."
    Anyone seen any plagues lately?

    8. The global financial system has also "melted down" and the situation is very bad outside the U.S.
No melt down as far as I can tell. Economically things are still not easy, but there is no meltdown

    9. The advanced industrial economies collapse first, and their sagging consumer spending drags down the export-based economies of emerging economies next.
Global growth looks like being 3% – 4% in 2012.

    10. 2012 is indeed a watershed year that sees the death of an ailing and unsustainable global economic system and lifestyle and its replacement with something better.
The global economic system is still strong and there is no sign of an alternative system. Fwiiw Celente did not have the prophetical powers (gumption) to say what this re replacement system would consist of.

    11. Expansionary monetary policy and the various government bailouts and stimulus programs create a "Bailout Bubble" that invariably bursts in a cataclysm for the U.S. and world economy.
    Not yet

    12. Obama blames other factors for this and might have even tried to start a war by 2012 to distract attention from the domestic misery.
Obama continues to talk the economy up and has not fallen into the trap of blaming others. Just because the tyrant Mao did this, it doesn’t follow that Obama will.

The common theme of all of these forecasts is that they are overly pessimistic about the strength capacity and ability of the American economy to rebuild itself after the GFC.

Celente’s forecasts encourage people to fear for their futures and simultaneously undermine the US as a system of government and as a society.

Celente's forecasts were nothing but hopeless scare mongering.

He is discredited by his own gross failings.

I recommend that every forecast he makes in the future be IGNORED!
