Yes it certainly it can be done. The trouble it it requires 3 ingredients and not just two. The third and the major one when it comes to cost is a simple little thing called energy? When you think about it, the only reason to burn oil, is to release the energy that it stores. The only reason this German idea has any legs, is to do with use excess renewable energy that has been encouraged by subsidies and can throw the German electrical price into negative numbers. Therefore if you have a industry that can soak up large amounts of electricity, quickly, then at certain times people will actually pay you to take that excess electricity. Also by using CO2 as a ingredient, someone else may pay you to use that as well.
So as long as the subsidy merry-go-round continues, then someone may make some money.
