Back when I used to trade more frequently, I saw an opportunity in a stock I held quite a few of. There was a large gap presented to the next seller in line, which would have created at least a 15% price jump.
So I put in a very small buy order. It was cancelled and didn't go through. So I tried again, and again.

Then my phone started ringing. It was the broker. "We know what your trying to do, stop it. It's not allowed", I was told.

True story, was quite shocked. Especially when you see whats happening today with ATC, and every other day with every other stock. Yeah, it's not trying to gap up, but it's still manipulation.
