But whats your alternative as renewables are nowhere near replacing the demand met by Nuclear?

If you want to reduce Co2 emissions & save the coconut palms on who gives a shit island in the middle of the pacific & slow down the rate of glacial melt down you MUST have Nuclear in the mix (& even more so if we are to meet the stretching targets set).

Solar & wind are too far behind the curve to make an impact, but the time solar has been rolled out the islands will be under water.

One of the biggest solar farms in the world in California has capacity of 550mw (can I boil a cup of tea at 8:00pm???NO is the answer youare looking for , covers 10 km2 & has a capacity to power 150,000 homes at a cost of US $2.5 Billion.

So to scale up & keep Sydney in power (in daylight hours say 8 till 4) with say 1.1M households (2016 census) will require say a facility 7 to 8 times bigger so Us$20B dollars..& needs to be replaced in 20 years..Don't forget the battery, say 100 tuimes the SA model & that won't get you through the night. PLus will cover what cover 80km2 land - where will that be placed in the food bowl/ farmland?............Still can't boil water for a cup of tea at 8:00..us$20B well spent?

And you want to add every car in the state to be 'fueled' by solar.

Or 1 reactor with a 1600 MWe chugging away 24/7 with a nominal footprint & no CO2 output.
