Steini, I think you forget emerging markets will still be building 3rd generation reactors to fuel their growth. Energy per capita and per unit of production will be lower than renewable energy.
Question is whether countries like Germany can remain competitive. What we may see is a switch from Germany to countries like China where production costs are cheaper. It wouldn't surprise me either to see more production moving to a cheaper cost base.
The greens tend to forget global economics are are much larger than their local environmental agendas.
And it is quite conceivable as the other posters are saying, appease the local electorate but pass the buck by buying power from your neighbours!
