Certainly seems like a knee jerk reaction, but on the other hand even the nuclear enthusiasts put nuclear costs as no better than current wind power costs.

The problems at Fukushima reinforce the cost issues with nuclear power. It seems that whenever there is a problem it is the government that puts up the money. There is not a single commercial nuclear power plant operating that hasn't been build without government finance guarantees. TEPCO simply doesn't have the money to pay for the costs of Fukushima and when the full cost is understood will be nationalised.

And we still haven't accounted for the costs of looking after the waste. Currently US operators are suing the US government for $12B for failing to take their waste over the last 10 years. What is going to cost for the next 25000 years?

Current projects for solar PV is that costs will achieve parity with current coal costs by the end of the decade (although some argue that we will be there next year).

So Germany may find that because it has a head start in renewables, rather than finding renewable costs are more expensive than nuclear, they will will actually be cheaper, and they will be even further in front in the industrial market place.
