if John Howard had been in almost any other seat than the one he is in he would most likely never have been able to hang around long enough to become PM anyway.
Many good people have been lost from parliament in more marginal seats before they got the opportunity to fully deliver on their ability.
Hardly a decent arguement when you consider all the deadwood that gets to stay justified by just one that turned out OK. (In the absence of all those others...)
