The government still has indirect interests on several levels:
(a) Voter support (shareholders);
(b) Investor support (subsequent privatisations); and,
(c) Health care system (viability and economic implications).
The third point is quite complex, but to loosen regulations might ultimately force us all to decide between quality of health care delivery and economic collapse. As my medical colleagues can attest, we are already witnessing the early stages of this in both the public and private health care systems ...
