I agree with you that shops are stepping up their campaigns to keep people spending but in the UK it was red signs EVERYWHERE. I walk down the shopping streets of Melbourne and its almost business as usual, although I notice now restaurants seem to be quieter these days. I live just off Chapel Street and Friday and Saturday nights are really quiet at the moment, used to be nose to tail cars and full restaurants everywhere. I don't know if its a seasonal thing now that winter is coming...
