This is causing increased demand for gas for peaking generators which of course only come in when the price is sky high. Hence high electricity prices.

This situation is largely due to lack of an energy policy by the federal government for the last ten years which left companies uncertain which direction they should go. They are not going to invest millions in maintaining something that could become obsolete tomorrow and that investment goes down the drain.
