Answering a couple of posts at once... I am happy with the board and executive team break up - they have not given AGL any direction for far too long... but it WAS their choice to resign... MCB did not force them to leave
Yes, board members are there to provide oversight on how a company is operated... the board wasn't doing that well IMO - so if they want to stay, sure, you could say they should validate why they have been there and getting paid quite well for doing so. We still have members of the board remaining - they are the ones doing a review on the future direction of AGL - results in another couple of months. The ones that left were those that stood to benefit most from the demerger.
Once a company goes private - they no longer need to be listed on a stock exchange and their actions and decisions can be made to please a much smaller number of holders....with a lot less scrutiny
If it went private - you or I would no longer be holders... we would be bought out (from memory you lose the choice to hold once they own 90% of the company) and therefore unable to receive a dividend.
Private companies still have a price per share - but it doesn't need to be viewed / valued / disclosed anywhere so that a non holder can easily view its current implied worth....
