kingpins, the problem is everything scomo does pushes the cost of property higher and higher. He is boasting about his homebuilder and various home guarantee policies as if they are good. They aren't. All they did was increase demand even more and push the prices higher. I don't know why the journalists don't take him to task on this when he mentions it in his press conferences. Every year, a higher proportion of Aussies have to rent. He is doing nothing about increasing the supply of houses. Changes to tax policy(Cgt, negative gearing and a property tax on multiple property holders) wouldn't in itself increase the number of houses in existence in Australia but would result in a huge transfer of those houses from rich investors to people trying to buy their first house which is what is needed. There r several other actions he could also take to increase supply but just doesn't do anything.
