Here is a tip on getting a cheap cruise, go to a cruise site, in this case I will use www.vacationstogo.com. Click on their 90 day ticker, there you will find (in most cases) heavily discounted cruises, of course it's seasonal, not many cruises in Australian waters at this time of year. But there are lots of cruises in the northern hemisphere, here is an example...
Seven day cruise Vancouver BC to Anchorage Alaska with Holland America's Statendam. Inside cabin for $299, that's a whopping 84% off, leaving June 2nd.
So, that's in a few days, you need to go at the drop of a hat, yep airfares can sometimes be expensive a few days before take off, you'll also need your passport and a visa if required.
There are a few other charges, like taxes and tips for the crew, charged to your on board account.
Happy sailings
