Reminds me of buying parts for old airoplanes (DC3 Dacotas) twenty five years ago the old planes are as cheap as dirt , the planes gain value because OPEX is low as the parts are cheap to find compared to replacement parts for new planes .
Then the old parts get used up (2nd stage) and the old parts (in this case resources near the mines become scarce and the old parts prices INCREASE !
Third stagesupply is the parts which are mainly engine parts are all used up but the airframes remain strong , so new turboprop engines replace the old piston engines and the planes have a new lease of life just like a mine processing plant is rejigged to process tailings
