KORONADAL CITY, South Cotabato, Aug 23 (PIA) -- Mining firm Sagittarius Mines Inc. (SMI) has turned over health kits yesterday to the provincial government intended for all barangay health stations in the province.

Governor Arthur Y. Pingoy Jr. and Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) Provincial Director Josephine Leysa received 620 health kits in behalf of the provincial local government from Leonardo Cortez Jr., SMI’s regional and provincial affairs superintendent.

“The donation of health kits is our support to the provincial government of South Cotabato intended to improve basic health services,” Cortez said.

Each kit is composed of two sphygmomanometers and two stethoscopes.

He added that SMI decided to give these instruments to barangay health stations following request from the provincial government submitted a request from SMI for support to address lack of such equipment especially in the BHS in remote villages.

The health kits, he added, cost about P1 million.

The turnover was held at the covered court inside the provincial capitol compound after the awarding of the P50,000 financial incentives to the 100 best-performing barangays under the LGU’s Dungog sa Barangay award system.

All 100 barangay awardees also received the health kits for their barangay health kits.

Barangay Affairs Unit Chief Joel Dimput said their office, upon direction from the office of the provincial governor, will handle the distribution of the health kits to the intended recipients.

Although they have yet to set the specific dates for the distribution, they have already planned to hold the turnover of these to the BHS by local government unit. (DED-PIA12)
