That is really dependent on your timeline. If you are willing to buy and hold + reinvest dividends for the next 20-40 years, then actually it's the best strategy. History has proven this. Over the very long term stocks are actually safer than bonds or bank deposits.
If you're time horizon is 2-10 years, then perhaps not, as bear markets can indeed last longer than a decade, so one should be mindful of selling into large bear market rallies.
