I don't think much in the sharemarket was overvalued in 2002 as the market in October that year was bottoming after the tech bubble burst in early 2000. It's hard to believe Rio Tinto was even worth $50 billion 10 years ago, if that was translated to today with the scenario you paint the shares would probably be valued between $150-$200 each to equate to 2002. I think you just answered your own question. Right now: the market is being ruled by FEAR, full stop.
