my take on it SP is that the "flight " to the USD was because many investments across the globe were denominated in USD. Thus you had a deleveraging back to the original currency, the USD. It was not a "flight " to value, but rather a phenomenon of liquidation of investments from whence they came.
If GFC 2 takes place, I see this as a deleveraging phenomenon, not a REAL VALUE currency rush.
That's why they go long USD and short Gold as these are diametrically opposed.
